Three Voices Most Creators Pick First

If you don't know where to start, start here. Nancy is the soft female voice most ASMR and sleep-content creators settle on for text to speech whisper narration. Davis is the male counterpart — deeper, brooding, the go-to for horror intros and spy dialogue. Iris is the hidden gem — ethereal naturally-soft delivery with an extra-soft mode beyond regular whisper, perfect for ASMR triggers and the most gentle sleep narration.

Sample line: "Close your eyes. Let your shoulders fall. You're safe here."

Eleven More Whisper Voices to Explore

Beyond the three headliners above, here are eleven more AI whisper voices — tested for whisper voice text to speech across ASMR scripts, sleep stories, and audiobook narration. Tap any card to audition.

Note: Nine of these voices use the Whisper preset — pick the voice, then tick it in the style dropdown. Linnet and Connie are different — they whisper by default with no settings needed (look for the Natural badge on their cards).

Four Production-Ready Whisper Scenes

Each whisper text to speech scene below was generated in a single Convert call — multi-voice dialog, looped background music, and one-shot sound effects all baked into one MP3. Tap "Open in editor" to load the exact script in SpeechGen, swap voices, tweak the music, and render your own version.

Add music and sound effects to any whisper scene — no editing software needed

  1. 1

    Background music

Open the Settings panel in the editor. Pick a track from our built-in music library (piano lullabies, ambient pads, cinematic pulses, music boxes — 1,000+ tracks). Set volume to 15–22% and tick Loop so it carries under the whole voice take.

  2. 2

    Sound effects

Click the Sounds button in the toolbar to open the SFX catalog. Insert anything inline: owl hoots, rain, match strike, footsteps, tibetan bowl, radio static. You can layer several — one effect per 8–10 seconds works best for whisper scenes.

  3. 3

    One Convert — all mixed

When you click Convert to Speech, the voice, looped music, and every sound effect render into a single MP3 already mixed at sensible levels. No DAW, no second software, no post-production.

Pro Tips — Get the Perfect Whisper Every Time

The little settings that make a generic AI whisper voice sound like hand-crafted hushed audio.

01 · Slow it down — biggest single impact

Set Speed to 0.88 to 0.92 for ASMR and whispered narration. Default 1.0 is too fast for whisper — slowing it adds breath room and lets every consonant land. For meditation go to 0.85.

02 · Add silence between sentences

In the editor, drop a 0.6 to 1.0 second pause between sentences (Insert → Pause). A hushed delivery without breath gaps feels rushed. With them, listeners drop into a trance. The Meditation scene above uses 700–800ms pauses throughout.

03 · Layer music quietly — really quietly

Background music volume: 15–22%, never higher. Your whisper audio is the focus — music is just mood scaffolding. 25%+ and the voice starts to fight for attention. Listen to the scenes above.

04 · One SFX per 8–10 seconds max

Owl hoots, match strikes, distant footsteps — they boost immersion when sparse. More than one effect every 8–10s and the scene gets cluttered. Scene 3 (Conspiracy Whisper) uses 2 SFX in 25 seconds — that's the sweet spot.

05 · Mix two voices for confessional scenes

Use <dialog voice="X">…</dialog> in the editor to switch mid-script. Late-Night Confession alternates female narrator + male reply for a confession vibe. Conspiracy alternates US + UK male for transatlantic spy feel.

06 · Use Avery for varied delivery

Avery has the widest delivery range of all voices on the page. Pop her into the editor, try her "empathetic" style for a warm intro then "whispering" for the deepest passages — or just stick with that alone. Try her on the ASMR and Meditation use cases below to hear her style range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a voice whisper?

Our whisper text to speech generator works two ways. For most voices on this page, open the style dropdown in the editor and select "Whisper". For naturally breathy voices (Linnet, Connie) just pick the voice and start typing — they're breathy by default. Try the Nancy / Davis cards above to hear both methods in 5 seconds.

What's the difference between Whisper-preset voices and naturally breathy voices?

Preset voices (Nancy, Davis, Avery, and 9 more) have a normal default delivery and switch to whispering when you tick that style in the dropdown. Naturally breathy voices (Linnet, Connie) are hushed by default — pick them, type, convert. Use preset voices when one project needs both normal and whispered passages; use naturally breathy voices for long-form ASMR where you don't want to think about settings.

Is the audio quality good for monetised ASMR videos?

Yes. Output is 48 kHz studio-quality MP3 or WAV. Commercial use is included on every paid plan, no extra licence per use. Many YouTube ASMR creators use SpeechGen for intros, text overlays, and full hushed segments.

Can I mix whisper voice and normal voice in one track?

Yes. Use the multi-voice tag <dialog voice="X">…</dialog> to switch mid-script. Each block has its own Speed and Pitch. See Late-Night Confession above — female + male hushed delivery in one MP3.

Will the voice ever sound robotic?

Not when you follow the Pro Tips above — slow speed, breath pauses, quiet music. The voices on this page were chosen specifically because they pass the "could be a real person whispering" test. If a voice doesn't feel right for your use case, try a different one — the library above has 14 audition-tested options.

Whisper voices in other languages?

This page is English-focused. SpeechGen also offers whispering text to speech in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, and several more — visit our main TTS page for the multilingual catalog.
